How to Generate Traffic With OnPage SEO

Best On-Page SEO Practices for the Search Engine and Your Audience - Blogger, Wordpress and Wix

When you think about OnPage SEO, One thing that should come to your mind is the part of SEO you can control.

With Onpage SEO, the search engine gets to understand what your website is all about. In fact, you need to know at the first glance of your page, that the search engine looks out for the on-page efforts you have employed in your website or page.

On-page SEO (also known as on-site SEO) is the step-by-step process of optimizing your web pages for search engines and users. It involves changing your website content, structure, and HTML to make it more likely to rank high in search results and attract more visitors.

Let's look at some white hat Onpage SEO practices, that are important in your website:

Title Tags

Your Title tag or Title of the Page or Post clearly explains the topic of the page. In a blog post, it is important to always put in the Title of the blog post.

Here is something to note, When using Blogger - The title is different from the H1 Tag, which is a very important tag in your content structure.

Title tags are the headlines that appear in search results. They should be clear, concise, and relevant to the content of your page.

Here are 2 things you must consider when writing a title tag:
  1. You should also include your target keyword in your title tag.
  2. Ideally, it should be between 50 - 60 characters.
An Example could be: What is On-page SEO?

Meta Descriptions

Now we know the Title of your blog post or your page, we need to let the audience know what the page is talking about.

Yes, I know the title is okay, but if you don't tell me in a few lines what your post or page is talking about I won't open/rank it.

Meta descriptions are the snippets of text that appear below title tags in search results. They should be informative and engaging, and they should encourage users to click on your link.

No Long story or grammer; A meta description is a brief paragraph between 150 to 160 words, that explains what the post or page talk about.

Basically, this section explains to the new user and search engine what the page talks about.

Ideally, you want to keep this around 150 - 160 Characters to avoid the search engine cutting out some parts.

Headings - The Tags (H1 - H6)

Think of Headings like you are writing a Note in High School and in that note, you have Sub Heading and Mini Sub Headings.

Headings are used to structure your content and make it easier for users and search engines to scan.

Apart from the Search Engine, for the Users (Which is very important) the H Tags help to understand the content better - Readability and user Experience is a factor considered in Google Rankings

You should use relevant keywords in your headings, and you should use a hierarchy of headings (e.g., H1, H2, H3) to organize your content.

Let's use Blogger as an example :

Blogger's Heading

Page speed - How Fast Your Webpage Loads

Ever found yourself waiting thirty seconds for a webpage to load? Me neither.

If your site takes forever to load, your bounce rate will be sky-high. The faster your site loads, the better.

Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool will give you a score on your site’s performance and provide suggestions for improving your Core Web Vitals and more.

Here is a recent test speed of my blog. Well not every time it will be at this best performance, that is why there should be room for a periodic SEO Audit

Internal and External Links in Your Website

So you have a website that is niched, why won't you want to link to another page or post if you are talking about something new in the same niche.

Let's talk about Internal linking;

This is very important because any information you are putting on your website or blog, its should give a user a full experience. Every internet searcher wants to know more.

Well, this might not work for someone who is coming to make a buying purchase, but there is always a "People also Searched" Section in your e-commerce website that takes them out of that page to another page within your website to make a purchase, that what I refer to as Internal linking

Now that we understand Internal Linking, let's go over External Linking;
External linking is quite broad, we may not go all over it all today. Just as the name goes "External".

It is a Link that is Coming In and Going Out From your Page or Website to another website. What we call Backlinks ( Those links coming from other sources or website to you).

When creating content, ensure to add links going in and out of your website, as well as other relevant pages related to the topic. The main idea is to let the user get the best reading experience on your website.

Here is a take-home to remember.

I believe you will get the best of this OnPage SEO practice. It's SEO and there are lots of Steady Changes that make the difference, and On Page SEO is just a part of it.
